SUMMER IN AMERSFOORT | SectionsMy Recollections Page 97 SUMMER IN AMERSFOORT Wednesday, August 22, 1945 Getting back into the usual routine of camp life. No mail today. Wrote letters to Alice and Mother. Thursday, August 23, 1945 On kitchen fatigue duty all day. Rained periodically. Went to bed early. Friday, August 24, 1945 On Sanitary fatigue duties. Went for a shower. No mail today. Stayed in camp in the evening. Saturday, August 25, 1945 On parade in the morning. Rested in the afternoon. Visited Christian People in the evening. No mail today. Sunday, August 26, 1945 Stayed in camp today. Went to Salvation Army meeting in town in the evening. Monday, August 27, 1945 Physical Training in the morning. Company runner the rest of the day. Wrote letters in the evening. It was a very nice day. Tuesday, August 28, 1945 Worked in the Orderly Room. Received a letter from Alice. Wrote letters. Applied for a trip to Czechoslovakia. Wednesday, August 29, 1945 - no entry - Thursday, August 30, 1945 Worked in the orderly room all day. Wrote letters to Mother and Alice. Rained all day. No mail today. Friday, August 31, 1945 Worked in the orderly room all day. Wrote a letter to Bill & Winnie. No mail today. Saturday, September 1, 1945 On parade for our pay in marks. Worked in the orderly room all day. Went downtown to visit Christian folks. Received letters from the Walters family and Alice. Sunday, September 2, 1945 Remained in camp all day. Time for a good rest and some reflection.
