Text Search

The Search feature allows you to search for a word, partial word, or phrase contained in a content entry. The Title, Main Content and Footer fields of each entry are scanned using your search criteria. The content listing becomes narrowed down to only those entries that match.

The search criteria is case insensitive, so searching for Homework will also match on HOMEWORK and homework.

Date Search

If you search for a date (in month/day or month/day/year format, e.g. 12/31) then "12/31" as text is searched in Title, Main Content and Footer fields AND "12/31" as date is used to scan for a match against the Assignment Date, Updated and Created dates.

If no year is supplied in a search date, then the current year is assumed.

Examples search dates:

  • 12/31
  • 12/31/2004
  • 12/31/04
  • 9/15
  • 9-15
  • 9-15-2005
  • 1/8/05
  • 01/08/05
  • 01-08-2005

Compound Search

When you perform a search, content entries are scanned using the entire phrase. If no results are found for the phrase, a new link appears giving you the option to search for each individual word within the phrase. Once a compound search is activated, "Clear Search" must be used to return to normal searching (where a phrase is searched for as a whole). Note that no highlighting appears in entries that are found as the result of a compound search.

NOTE: In the Student/Public view, everything will be scanned except archived entries (which are hidden from students/the public) and password protected entries. In the Teacher/Admin view (which means you are logged in), all entries are scanned when a search is performed.

Please note also that attached files themselves (files uploaded to an entry) — Word, PDF documents for example — are not searchable.
